What's up with Planetbeing?

Many of you asked in the past 1 month or so, where is Planetbeing? What is he doing? Has he abandoned the project?
The answer to the last question is a definite NO.

While I don't know enough of his private life to shed you light of exactly what he is doing and his whereabouts but I can tell you that I have been in constant contact with him along with other iphone dev-team members through IRC. Apart from having to look after his academic stuff and a few paid odd jobs to earn him some pocket money, he was recently actively involved in the iOS jailbreak with Comex. He is now indulging himself in the excitement of getting the iPhone 4 baseband unlocked with Musclenerd, as you can tell from his tweets.

Even when he was working on such things, he still has his mind on iPhonelinux as can be seen from the excerpt of the conversation we had on IRC below:

Jun 30 16:23:18 |planetbeing| saurik: CPICH: you might be interested in this: http://RED-ACTED/tfp.c
Jun 30 16:24:01 |planetbeing| This is what I've been using to explore the kernel with the tfp patch. You need a copy of "tense3" (the fixed up iPhone 4 kernel dump) to use some of the page table related commands.
Jun 30 16:24:30 |planetbeing| CPICH: this will be super-useful for like iPhone Linux stuff because we can map in whatever hardware region we want and peek at the current register settings.
Jun 30 16:25:16 |CPICH| ok
Jun 30 16:30:46 |Zf[idling]| once you can boot linux
Jun 30 16:30:47 * Zf[idling] runs
Jun 30 16:34:13 |CPICH| can modify it to work on previous platforms for yet to be ported drivers though
Jun 30 16:35:18 |planetbeing| Yup.
Jun 30 16:36:40 |planetbeing| That's why I wrote a whole program to mess with it easily.

Also, a few other folks on #iphonelinux such as Bluerise, ricky26, nickp6666, Alex, James etc. are making steady progress in making minor improvements such as vibrator on 3g, porting of Ultrasn0w, usb, multitouch accuracy, Froyo on 3g etc. So, while waiting for Planetbeing to provide direction on major items such as PMU and GPU, there are no lack of activities.

Finally, you may ask, what can't Planetbeing provide updates on this blogs, surely it won't take him a few minutes?

Well, there is simply nothing for him to update on the iphonelinux front at this moment, and writing a non-technical update with no technical substance is very "unPlanetbeing", so it is up to n00b like me to provide this "non-update" update.

thank you for the non-technical update. those of us who are watching and intensely waiting are glad to know that progress is still being made, even if no milestones are being hit as of yet.
thanks for updates. The only thing that would be appreciated would be something like: "the following devices 3gs, 4g, ipad will never have android working on it'. There are many people waiting, and it obvious that something can be explained to them

thanks for the update....
just waiting to install froyo on my iphone2g that's the reason why i didn't upgraded to any other phone.
waiting desperately to install that................
I like technical updates. The geekier, the better.
just wondering if iphodroid works with planetbeing because he already has froyo on iphone 3g with an automated install?
the problem is still the power management (the iphone gets hot as hell) and the storage.
you guys should start a project on kickstarter.com. This would help raise funds for the project. Might help things get moved along faster. Just a thought.
Thanks for the update! Like many people, I was wondering if the project had been abandoned, and I'm glad to read that's not the case!
Yeah, thanks for the Jargon free update! But as I have been casually been browsing the web I found out that there is no available method of installing any form of Android on the iPhone 3GS. I mean apart from the baseband is there that much that needs to be tweaked for the device to run this OS? Anyway, I am considering abandoning iPhone for the Nexus one or desire, due to the lack of customisable features and animations that may be found in the stale, grid like iOS. Anyway, any help with the 3GS would be much appreciated!

Oh and P.S. everybody hates the 3G and it is now more than ever obsolete so the 3GS should be a nice step up for android.

Well you're, just going to have to find one mate, the system architecture isn't all that different on 3GS.

Thanks for the update! What we really need is froyo on iPod Touch 1st Gen, so it won't become a brick (since it's no longer supported as of iOS 4, so all apps will no longer install on it).
I'm very intressed of running Adroid as my OS on my Iphone, so when its fully functional I will defintely run it again, I tested it but there was no Adroid Market on it, but I read its possible to put it on Idroid.

@Stromos-ya u r right planetbeing said once in his interview that powermanagement issue will take time n that not a easy job to done.

but i m wondering that currently he is working on iphone 4 unlock project (fhis tweet said) so who is working on powermanagement issue???

to port android IPHODROID tool is currently on the way but till powermanagement issue will solve that tool is useless....

why they r working to port openiboot on ipod touch as still android on
iphone 2G,3G in not fully useable for daily use ..
i wanted to upgrade my phone but if i m getting that android OS on iphone why should i upgrade so people like me r just waiting for the release of fully functional android OS for iphone....
Bluerise has been working on PMU and GPU drivers. We don't need planetbeing to move forward.

Hi guys!

It was really nice reading your post!

Here's something that you might want to use and write about:

This one is for iPhone users who love to vacation in Paris and/or Barcelona; or for people who live in France or Spain…

Exquisite application for your iPhone with all the best parties and events in Paris and Barcelona!

Satellite Google Map that tells you where are the hot spots each week, you have full description of every event and the app gives you the chance to even book your place on the guest list directly from you iPhone application! You can also share with your Facebook friends the parties you’ll be attending!

Don’t waste any time wandering in Paris or in Barcelona with boring guides or a stiff guidebook. As long as you have an iPhone, the Guestlist apps will lead you to the greatest parties and get you past the velvet ropes!

Use the link below to view and download the Paris app (for free)… http://www.ParisGuestlist.com/iphone/english.htm

And here is the free Barcelona app… http://www.bcnguestlist.com/iphone/

Have fun!!!
jjust trust me planet being doesnt care about this any more

A shame, I was looking forward to a semi usable version of android in the next few months. When things go a bit silent it always means a major setback.

I hope the others can continue and finish the work started though.

I don't know where else to put this, but...

Your patch for Facetime and SMS on the iphone via ssh was incomplete (not a huge deal, but it didn't fix the issue for me).

You must also add in chmod 755 /private/var/mobile/ to the list of directories to fix perms on. Then you reset your network prefs and you are golden. You will know if you have this issue if you try to access your network preferences and it takes a while to show the contents of the preference configuration. Maybe I'm a one off.

Kevin

No big deal.
