I wrote a piece about this that PC World was nice enough to run.
Click here to read the PC World article for more details!
Here's the video demo that I put up:
Thanks to ricky26 and bluerise for their time on the multitouch, many others who worked on openiboot, and my friend Alisa for the graphical changes (visit her site at galiaxy.net)

So it wont take long to run it on 3GS, isn't it?? :D
When it is released for 3GS I would like to test it!!
Regards and nice work man
Woah! Nice work!
3GS next I guess? Wow, I can't believe how far this project has actually gotten.
Wish I could try it out, but I've only got an iPT3.
Nice, Come on~
Awsome man youve done a WONDERFUL job!
thnk uuuuuuuuuuuuu
please ...is it working with ipod touch 3g ? THX
Awesome! Great work. I got it booting up with just the multitouch and wifi, but once the baseband and sound is fully working, it'll kick ass.
One question though, has there been much progress with power management? My iPhone gets pretty hot since there's no clock gating. I can't imagine that being good for the CPU. Once that's sorted though, I'd gladly use it fully :D
is that still 1.6? also i think the vid sayed something about apps, can u add other apps yet?
Fantastic! Can't wait to write about it.
I have a question.. since it uses ultrasn0w to communicate qith the baseband it will only work with 04.26.08? Congrats for your amazing work!
This is fantastic stuff, and is why I donated before; I'm very much looking forward to loading this up on my 3G once sound and baseband comms are working.
Congratulations to everyone involved, you just breathed a whole lot of new life into phones that many of us worried might become paperweights without an upgrade path over the next couple of years.
Hey What if the 3G is already a Rogers phone (I'm from Vancouver as well), and I'm using the network. Does that mean I could essentially skip the ultrasn0w process and skip right to the boot?
Glad to see you're getting the recognition you deserve. Great work!
How much space will this take up (now, and when finished)
Amazing work. I just dont get it though if you have all of this knowledge and talent at dual booting with iphone os why install inferior software when you could be using your knowledge to dual boot os X snow leopard on an ipad which will gain 100x more popularity and people might worship you. After all you did boot linux on an iphone so how much harder can it be to boot os x on an ipad??
there are plenty of people hackintoshers jailbreakers and normal people who would do anything to "jailbreakintosh" the ipad and your the only one capable of doing it. I would actually buy the ipad only if you could do this. So please use your amazing programming skills to bring the proper OS onto the ipad
Great and really beatiful works thanks really! =)
Hope to try soon! :D
@igritz good luck trying to install OSX on a ARM based device..
i think i just jizzed my pants :D
You are doing an amazing job keep up the awesome work. I know it can be annoying with everyone saying "Hey, now you can work on the 3GS" when the 3G version hasn't even reached a stable state yet...
Hopefully it doesn't require a specific baseband (AT&T, I already updated the iPhone OS).
One thing I am worried about is Power Management, my iPhone gets terrible battery life as it is..
Now that some of the drivers are implemented, it shouldn't be that much of a stretch to upgrade the Android version in the future, right? From what I understand the hardest part of the project wasn't Android itself, it was the drivers?
Anyway, the progress within just the past month has been overwhelming, I'll definitely be sending a donation your way soon!
Superb work, guys ..! Your progress is lightning-fast! It's a real pleasure to follow the progress of a group of such motivated and committed people.
great work I'm hooked on your blog now. Cant wait to try it out on my 3g :)
Thanks a lot planetbeing, Now I'm very Excited, Waiting for the release, Another question, What If I have officially unlocked iPhone, Will I still have to run blacksn0w on startup ? and please remember the updated baseband issue, I have the OS 4.0 Beta 3 baseband
That is great news!
But I am confused: It seems one of the main problems is the phone-feature. Are you still working on the port for the iPod Touche (1G)?
That one doesn't have any phone-connectivity...
Still waiting eagerly for that!
But great work so far none the less!
Man, you guys work fast! I remember when I first saw the 2G port and didn't know it was just for the first generation iPhone.
Seeing that the 3G is really close to a public release (even if not as stable as you guys would like) makes me infinitely happy.
I've been working on a Genesis emulator on Android for the last week or so (with what spare time I can find). I've been debugging it on the Android emulator which isn't as responsive as I'd like. Would be awesome to have a physical device to test it on.
Out of curiosity, this is the 1.6 release of Android, correct? What exactly is stopping the 3G from running Android 2.1? I'm assuming hardware and the 3GS can run it. A shame though, since 2.1 introduces Bluetooth and such in the SDK. I would do more Googling right now but alas it is late and I figure I'd leave the questions to the experienced ones working on the project instead.
Anyhow, I plan on snatching the Evo 4G as soon as Sprint releases it, so no worries on getting 2.1 device soon.
Keep up the good work, you guys are awesome. Enjoying the constant updates even if they are such a tease at times. :)
you are the man, i can't wait to test it... awesome dude.
This is great news. Thank you so much for your time and effort. I will make a small donation as a thanks :)
I'm waiting for my new piece of iP for sometime, but now I just can't wait to test it with your Adroid port! :)
btw. great 3GS holder ;)
Excellent Work David !!!
If I have well understood it will be Available in 2 days... then I will try it !
Because I will try to instal it on Iphone 3G which has bootloader 5.09 problem and then no Network... would be a good issue to have Phone and no an Ipod touch....
Absolutely brilliant job! Congrats to all developers who contributed.
I support this project and hopefully one day we'll be able to use Android as well, on a regular base, running on an iPhone.
1- when u reach the 3gs can u please use (android htc sense ui) since its black and fits the iphone shape better and is 2.1 and has the android market
2-as for the android part of ur work i would sujjest u talk to some of thig name hackers like hackuro who used to be an iphone dev i think
3- oh and for helping u get donations i thought u would release a normal worthless iphone app that is pid and by buying it we would be donating to u through in app purchase i would tottally do that
Great stuff man, proud of you.
But when you release the 3g build on android please release it for 2g also, because as you know its brick proof as per apple update is concerned at least.
So also release android for 2g with 3g
This is great, incredible work by you and the rest of the people teamed up with you, I was not expecting it to move along this quickly. May the code be with you...yeah...that was lame :D
Alfredo he has ultrasnow because his iPhone is locked to AT&T and he's not on AT&T. If your phone is legally unlocked it won't need ultrasnow.
Congratulations for the success! Still needs a little bit of optimizing, but I'm sure it will be kick-ass when the drivers are updated.
Have you gotten the GPS to work? Hope you can get also the latest Android to work on the 3G and the 3GS!
Regards and keep up the good work!
Yeah man! That's great! This is the best project in the whole community! Keep on goin' and don't forget the 3GS on the run :D
This is some of the best news for me all week! I just want to say that this is some of the best technical news I've kept up with all year, and I can't wait until audio gets ported completely into the 3g. This is probably the biggest advancement in iPhone Homebrew/Hacking since the dawn of the jailbreak.
Keep on going, your becoming a hacker's god!
Great Job..........
Waiting for Release.......
How are you dealing with the lack of hardware buttons?
Any idea how the speed compares to an Android phone with the same CPU (I think the G1 might have the same CPU)?
Wonderful! Thanks so much for the updates and the hard work.
Hey guys. I'd love to contribute to the project. how can i help. done quite a bit of low level programming, and device stuff would like to help any way i can. warrenmoxley at gmail dot com cheers
Very funny,
good work !
best regards
http://blog.atomlabor.de
(note that I've never used android before in my life) I think, since from what I know you're missing some buttons you need, you should try to make the screen slightly smaller, and have however many virtual on screen buttons. I personally would really hate having to use the sleep button for anything other than putting it to sleep (just a personal preference and I'm not sure how mutual the feeling it to the rest of the users). Either that or a USB doggle to add more buttons (lol i'm just kidding on that :P) Really cool though, can't wait to have this all going on my iPhone HD when it comes out :D
now i hope that all the people that said "when android for 3g get out i will donate" will do exactly what they said.
FUCKING STUPID ASS CHINK. OH WOW, ZOOMING ON THE BROWSER!!! WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU PROVE IF IT CAN RUN FLASH YOU STUPID FUCKING CHINK DIPSHIT. WHY DON'T YOU DO SOMETHING USEFUL YOU STUPID DUMBASS FUCKING CHINK
i just donated $10... this is so sick! awesome work guys!
I can't donate time/code right now so I'm sending a little cash your way instead. Consider it a down payment for android on my 3GS. :)
plz its a request plz update for 2g with music stuff working, also there is lots of problem on installing android on 2g n getting bricked phone so lots of people need ur help kindly help them.
Where I can learn to boot my 3G to Android?
thx
wow that was a fast port to the 3G, you guys are awesome!!
Like to see the iDroid running at my iPod Touch 3G - would be great :)
(+ I suggest you first complete the 1.6 Donut before you start with an eclair port like others ask, this should be hard enough xD )
Wow! This is something! Highly impressed with your work and the progress you are making. Impressive dedication and sincerity.
Will this ever be realesed for the ipod touch 2g/3g?
This so so cool!
But can you please port android 2.1 to 3GS.
Keep up the awesome work.
Will there be a possibility to update the Android version in the future? And why are you working on version 1.6? Are the sources of the newer versions unavailable?
Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey how would i be able to put this on a iphone 3g id like to go buy one only if i know i can do it any chance maybe you can run a email by me
mikeytmxd@gmail.com
Fantastic! you really our hero! I couldn't do as anything other than donation. I know you must put a lots of your time, energy and your talent.
a great reason for me to keep at least one of the 2 3g iphones that I'm working on to play with when I'm bored with my nexus one. Kudos and keep up the GREAT work!
Hope I can contribute by testing it when things enter the beta stage. I'm not very technically inclined so I don't really know how I can help right now. Great work though. To think, I ran into this site a few weeks ago with the sole purpose of trying to get a way to multi-task on the iPhone. (Did a Google search for 'multi-tasking iPhone'. Came up with jailbreaking. Did a search for 'android iphone' and this came up.) I love how fast this is progressing.
U r great! This is awesome. Can us mere human beings do it also?? If so how???
Awesome work! Looking forward to this.
I can't WAIT to get rid of Apple's Crap OS.
Your brilliance is without the words to express !
Is it possible to unleash the processor's full capacity? I mean can it be ru. On 600 mhz now? It would be great and I do know it will kill the buttery quick but hey ho the 3g can be just as fast as the 3gs, or can it?
Dude this is insane, I thank you sooooooooooo much for all the effort you've put into this, and I can't wait to try it out.
Consider my hat OFF. I've been anxious for android on iPhone for over a year--this is really exciting! I'm so grateful--THANK YOU!!
One of my big interests is Google Voice on the iPhone. (esp the 3GS).... Seems there are several hurdles left until that beautiful day, but I think you'll gain the support of another growing sector of iPhone users when, against Job's best efforts, you get GOOGLE'S OWN GV app on the iPhone.
A 'dream' of mine would be to run both iphone and android OS simultaneously, choosing one to be primary, but then share space with apps from either the Apple or Android App Store.
How good would that be!? Imagine making Jobs and Schmidt playing nice together like that!!
When for ipod touch 2g ?
Simply amazing. Its always nice to know people do work like this just to show its possible. Looking forward to future projects also! Keep up the great work and for updating us!
Your doing some great work. Thank you. One day I hope to be doing what your doing.
Congratz!
I want Ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition for iPad!!! Is it possible?
I'm really looking forward to a 3GS version, and also I hope you are at least looking at Android 2.0+ software, I am not that interested in 1.5/1.6
its looking really good! i cant wait till you release a version allowing us to make calls and send sms.
@Occvlta: im glad you have nothing productive to say. you are a complete waste of space.
Hey, glad to see more progress om this project.
Just one question: android can be installed on iTouch?
Hey, if you need some help as far as image designing, I can help. You can email me at chance@chancehudson.com
Your new post is featured on gecko.ashishmg.com
any update for 2G ?????
is this like jail breaking the phone? would i stil be able to get the new OS 4 when it comes out if im running this on my phone?
2 things.
1: does 3G work as well?
2: does it have access to google market?
nice work man! lookin' forward to an iPod touch 2g port =D
Oh wow. I thought about once I upgade my iPhone 3G that apple thinks is just a paperweight, I'll give it to a friend, but not anymore! Android, on an iPhone is just wow. So much better then just giving my phone away! I wouldn't care how much it takes.
i had read audio will be coming. i was then wondering how i listen to my library? does android have an app for that? is it like itunes? will it be included in your final release?
get back to me pleas, i am very intrested
epierce66@gmail
Excellent work. That was fast !
Hope there is a release for the 3G n 3gs soon.
Since it uses ultrasn0w .. will it work with 5.12
keep truckin ..
.peace
this is awesome! i will gladly throw some money your way if you guys get a 3gs version going.
When Release ?
i must admit i thought it would of been released by now, maybe hes triying to add sound support before release
cannot wait for the release :|
when will the binaries release? btw nice job folks.
when will the binaries release?
Dude...if you get Android running with full functionality on the 3G, I will donate. This is probably the best thing to ever happen to the iPhone. BTW...what version of Android are you using? Hopefully it.s 2.x, that'd be sick.
he posted on twitter about 7 hrs that he hopes to have it out tonight but who knows. I think maybe tomorrow for sure. Probably just tired getting audio to work which he did from what he said via twitter
Any word on the release date?
guys, please do some donations to him if you like his work.
its 5 days since the last update give us some bits and peices so we can shut our mouths and read wonderful things people can do and we dummies cant. thanks planetbeing. pack up the files faster for us to start complaining coz we cant wait to whine

There are a lot of guide for android on 2g, but i cannot implement those on 3Gs... Please Help us!
Android OS Rules!
@mackid Thanks!

Does 3g work on the iphone 3g ?
@Garet

nice video about android on iphone 3G. keep it more post.Mobile Application Development
Keep it going man, can't wait to see this at prod level.
I want to install this so bad. I'm not really sick of AT&T I'm sick of Apple, not just for the iPhone but as a whole. I jailbroke my phone so it didn't look so blan, then update after update they would kill the jailbreak and an update for the jailbreak would come out. I'm going to use this Android install to see if I like it, I'll even wait to see if he updates Android to 2.1. If I like Android as an OS then I'll swith to the Nexus One.
This is a great project your doing here, I can't wait to see where it goes. Keep up the good work
when is it coming for iPod touch 2g?
hes so odvously hasnt finished it it was just a iphone 2g in the latest video otherwise he would of released by now. so much for a few days its been a week
Alexander check this link out about your Nexus.....
http://www.neowin.net/news/nexus-none-sprint-drops-google039s-quotsuperphonequot
:(
will sum1 please just either release this or tell u whats going on?
Please give some news.
he might have been busy this week just wait and it'll be out soon
karlpsp07.
Honestly, I think you need to calm down and show some respect. David is under no obligation to release this thing. If you're so desparate to get hold of this, all the android source code is freely available why not just do it yourself... oh wait, that's because you're not a coding genius, you're just a poser who wants to show off to your mates, and make them think you're some kind of tech god.
Let's be fair, David has done something you can't even begin to wrap your head around, and you have the audacity to criticise him because it has taken a few days longer than you want it to. I think dual booting Android on my iPhone will be brilliant, and can't wait to try, but if it takes 2 more days, 2 weeks or even 2 months, I am smart enough to know that that's still WAY quicker than I could do it on my own.
Looked at the link. That dosent change anything for me to be honest. I'll still be able to use it just fine on AT&T, even says that in the artical.
@ .:luke:.
Great comment
im waiting patiently because i would do what david did in 47 years or something :p and i expect he got his own life as well this is just a side quest
So do wait paitently and give him time he wants to bring out a product with the least amount of problems that takes alot of time ( i believe no one can do it with 0 problems)
do take your time david and don't let some of the bad comments bother you ;) we are gladly awaiting your magnificent product
Long time no update your blog, hero. Something wrong?
Don't worry guys it will arrive... Everything arrive in time to everybody who know wait
Hey that's awesome!
/Check out the iAndroid Forums at http://iandroidforums.mine.nu and http://www.andersentech.net
luke shut the fuck up, if you knew anything which you dont youd know that i helped develop bluenova and have been working with the iphone bluetooth project for years. so yes i am a coder. and usally a few days doesnt meen over a week to me
give it(android for 3g) to me baby, ahah ahah
karlpsp07.
With respect then... if you want it sooner, since you claim to be a coder, shut up complaining and do it yourself then.
And with all due respect, David does this for free, in his own time, and you criticise him.
Clearly David is taking the time to work out as many bugs as possible before releasing this FREE software... The same can not be said of your own.
I tried iBlueNova, and yeah, it was okay, but for sure was not worth the 6 bucks it was gonna cost me... way too buggy.
If David had charged you money, and not delivered that would be one thing, but he hasn't, it's free, so stop whining.
karlpsp07 - If you want android so bad then go spend your money on an overpriced Nexus One. oh you don't want to spend $500 to try out a software platform? oh then stop bitching and wait like everyone else.
lol i have a android, we took a LOT longer coding bluenova thats why we charge.
I'm sure that David is working hard on it...
So wait like everyone else.
maybe you can donate something to the blog so you can improve the research or just click google adsense.
I just tried to use the 2G method on a 3Gs but it didn't work for me, some ideas?
(Sorry for my english!)
David take your time.
Riccardo from Italy
luke would you rather we didnt? do you speek for all iphone owners when you say youd rather we didnt release an app to send files via bluetooth? you probly have winterboard installed uninstall it first
your just mad cos you dont have it either well fuck you mr 'admin'
I don't think you know me mr. psp.
Go play super mario.. asshole!
yes either mario or grand theft auto linux on iphone is a story
http://iphonefansshop.com/iphone/47365-iphone-3-0-internet-tethering-mms-on-o2-uk/
Are you sure that you are a programmer?
Because you don't seem too able to set up mms on iphone... ahahha!
Fantastic!
Please port this to iPod touch 1G!! pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee.
course im sure cherlok (admin) that was my borhter on my account
"Sherlock" and "brother"...
Bla bla bla bla
Admin - Great work! Don't let the morons bother you. The rational among us are appreciative of your effort and understand that this is not a task that can be easily time-boxed, as you are dealing with unknowns.
karlpsp07 -
You are a moron. What would be best is if you stick with your iphone the way it is and have apple support walk you through how to use it. Honestly, I am surprised you can figure out how to turn your phone on. Then again, maybe your "borhter" does it for you. Stop wasting everyone's time with your useless posts.
'shawn' fuck off u iphone nerd infact this hole fuking thing is full of iphone nerds go fuk urself or do u need help with that frm ur bro
karlpep07-I don,t know if you are titled to demand what and when Planetbeing must to do, unless Planetbeing is your Dad. By the way, if you are his son and under 18 year old, you hare right to demand more, like feeding you.....
karlpsp07.
Wow.... just wow.
Of course we're iPhone nerds... we're talking about installing linux and Android on an iPhone... you say that like it's a bad thing. You claim to be a coder for iBluenova and then mock us for being nerds... seriously... just wow.
Anyway, since you are such a genius coder, i'm wondering how android is running on your iPhone, what with the fact that you should obviously be able to at very least compile everything David has done from his github repo.
Hmmmmm... Yeah
fuck you both, ys android on my phone and whats more ive managed to get bluetooth working on it whilst in andoid os
I cannot wait to see how far this goes. So have a donation to the cause and keep this one going, I'm on the verge of buying an iPhone now, so I can start testing this out. It's actual brilliance.
good video post about iPhone 3G. mostly iphone application is very friendly user. Mobile Application Development
Hi, i have a HTC Nexus One, one day you can mate a ROM using iPhone OS to N1 ? =) Thanks.
