iPhone 3G binaries!

I wrote up a how-to for PC World on how to put Android on the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 2G and it went up today. I wanted to be there to tweet about it when it went up, but I've been keeping really strange hours lately and I wasn't awake for it when it went up.

But here are the binaries (for iPhone 3G, and for iPhone 2G), graciously hosted by PC World!

Please read the how-to that I wrote for PC World to on installing it. The steps are basically the same as before, except you can put the firmware in a directory on the iPhone OS data partition. This means that you don't have to modify the ext2 partition as before.

One thing I didn't mention is that you could perform the installation on OS X without a Linux VM if you recompile loadibec and oibc. Otherwise, the directions are the same.

Congrats and thanks a lot man :)
Awesome! But... what about the iPod Touch 1G? Is there a guide to install using the source, or are there any binaries available for it? Many thanks!

Cant wait for ipt2g :)
Bring on the power management! I'm going to give this a shot as soon as I get home from work. We're having family over for dinner, but who cares? I've got Android on the iPhone!

But how easy is it to update Android once a new version that fixes power management / uses a newer Android build / has a power off / whatever comes along?

There's another $10 coming your way once I have an experiment. Good job!

I am not a coder of any sort, but I have always considered myself somewhat tech savvy.

That being said, I find your instructions extremely confusing and frustrating.

It works! Thank you! Thank you!

I'll have to send you some cash.
can I still try this on my 3G with 3.1.3 on it?

YES, after a 9 hour work day, I'm TOTALLY ready to do this.

And yes, I agree with you planetbeing, this is NOT that hard. I'll be posting a blogger page about it shortly (with instructions under Windows).

Wooooot.

So in your instructions you explain that if you have upgraded your phone to 3.1.3 than you can use PwnageTool to create a jailbroken 3.1.2 .ipsw file to restore down to. Can you explain how this is done. I cannot seem to figure this one detail out. Thanks

OMG,OMG,OMG,OMG,OMG,OMG,OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally :)
But is it really true that Andorid decrease battery life that way? I was really looking forward to this but only one hour of Android fun is pretty less :(
Can you estimate when you release a better power management and will this be upgradable?
But thanks and nice work anyway :)

I'll be donating once you show progress on 3GS. I would like to say that I admire your efforts and you are very kind for bestowing this gift upon the somewhat tech savvy world.

Just FYI, dripwn, loadibec, and oibc all build fine under Fedora 13 beta on x86_64. For anyone needing to do this: you need to install libusb1 and libusb1-devel if they aren't already there, along with cmake (for xpwn) and the usual build tools (make, gcc, etc).

David, excellent work! It booted up on the first try for me, no hassle whatsoever. That is one tiny-ass font for the kernel messages, though. ;-)

Now I need to figure out how to get the Google apps from my wife's G1 loaded up on here...
